BR Sporthorses offers structured horseback riding lessons for children and adults at Broad Hollow Farm in Ancramdale, New York. Our program welcomes beginners, returning riders, and experienced riders seeking thoughtful instruction in dressage, jumping, working equitation, and practical horsemanship.

Designed for new or returning riders, our Foundations course provides a safe, comprehensive introduction to horses and riding through six private sessions.
Students learn how to safely approach, halter, lead, and handle a horse; identify grooming tools and tack; groom, saddle, and bridle; and care for the horse before and after riding. Mounted instruction introduces correct position and balance, mounting and dismounting, starting, stopping, steering, walk-trot transitions, posting, and basic arena etiquette.
As students progress, they become increasingly responsible for preparing and handling their horse independently while developing the confidence and control necessary to ride safely around others.
Upon completion, riders receive an instructor recommendation for placement in our weekly group lesson program, additional private development or a potential leasing opportunity.

Designed for graduates of our Foundations course who would benefit from additional individualized instruction before joining a group.
Over six private sessions, riders develop greater independence, balance, and control while working on walk-trot transitions, posting diagonals, arena figures, poles, introductory obstacles and canter preparation when appropriate.
Upon completion riders receive an instructor recommendation for group placement, continued private development or a potential leasing opportunity.

Designed for graduates of our Horsemanship courses, our weekly group Program helps riders build confidence, independence and consistency in a supportive, community focused environment.
Groups are carefully matched according to rider ability and goals. Lessons develop balance, position and effective communication while incorporating walk-trot-canter work as appropriate, arena figures, poles, introductory jumping, dressage exercises, working equitation obstacles and practical horsemanship skills.
Riding with others teaches valuable skills that cannot be developed as effectively in private instruction, including arena awareness, safe spacing, adaptability and maintaining control while working around other horses. Students also learn by watching their peers and supporting one another's progress.
Monthly tuition includes four scheduled group lessons. Riders who wish to pursue additional private instruction may become eligible through an approved lease arrangement. Group placement is determined by the instructor and depends on rider readiness, scheduling and suitable horse availability.

Designed for committed riders ready to enjoy greater independence and a more consistent relationship with one horse, our lease program offers many of the benefits of horse ownership without the full financial and long term commitment.
Leasing riders are carefully matched with an appropriate horse based on their experience, goals, and riding style. Depending on the individual arrangement, leases may include scheduled independent rides, group lessons, private instruction, clinics and opportunities to participate in shows or other barn activities.
Lessees learn to take greater responsibility for their horse's preparation, care, fitness and development while receiving continued guidance from the BR Sporthorses training team. Private lesson access is available to leasing riders, allowing instruction to be tailored to the individual horse and rider partnership.
Lease opportunities are offered by instructor approval and depend on horse availability. Each arrangement is customized according to the horse, number of weekly rides, lesson schedule and the rider's goals.
If you wish to cancel your lesson with us you must give at least 48 HOURS NOTICE or full payment will still be taken.
Everyone feels they have a valid reason for us to waive the cancellation fee when a lesson is cancelled for social, family, health or business reasons but there can be NO EXCEPTION to the rule.
Thank you for your understanding.
