Thoughtful Training. Better Horses.
At BR Sporthorses, training is about more than teaching movements or preparing for the next show. The goal is to develop horses that are confident, rideable, versatile, and enjoyable to work with—while giving them the foundation they need to succeed in whatever comes next.
Our training is rooted in correct dressage principles, with an emphasis on balance, responsiveness, confidence, and clear communication between horse and rider. We also believe strongly in cross-training. Depending on the horse, that may mean jumping, trail riding, Working Equitation obstacles, groundwork, long lining, or simply getting out of the arena.
From First Rides to Performance
Training is available for horses at all stages of development, including:
Every horse is an individual. Rather than forcing horses through a predetermined system or timeline, we work to understand what each horse needs and build from there.
Training Horses. Developing Riders.
From foundation to performance, the goal remains the same: a better educated, more confident horse and a rider equipped to continue that development.

Dressage is at the foundation of our training program. We focus on biomechanically correct, progressive training that develops strength, balance, suppleness, and confidence while respecting each horse’s individual conformation and development.
Horses are given the time to build the strength and understanding required for each stage of their training rather than being pushed through movements before they are physically or mentally ready. Correct basics and thoughtful conditioning are prioritized with the goal of developing horses that are not only successful in their work, but comfortable, confident, and sound for the long term.
From young horses learning the fundamentals to established horses developing collection and more advanced work, we believe good dressage should improve the horse—not simply produce movements.
Developing a young horse is about far more than simply getting them under saddle. We begin with thoughtful groundwork, building confidence, communication, and an understanding of the aids before progressing to lunging and long lining. Horses are also ponied and exposed to life outside the arena, giving them the opportunity to experience new environments while building confidence in a safe, positive way.
As they progress under saddle, we continue to prioritize correct basics, strength, balance, and versatility. Trail riding, obstacles, jumping, and other forms of cross-training may all become part of their education.
There is a tremendous amount that goes into developing a horse—from their very first foundations through performance—and we believe taking the time to build those foundations creates confident, capable horses for the future.
Working Equitation brings together correct dressage training, horsemanship, obstacles, and practical riding in a way that develops both horse and rider. We use Working Equitation not only as a competitive discipline, but as a valuable part of our overall training program.
Obstacle work encourages horses to become more confident, responsive, balanced, and thoughtful while giving riders an opportunity to apply their dressage skills with a purpose. It can be especially valuable for developing young horses, building confidence, improving communication, and adding variety to the training of established horses.
For riders interested in competition, we offer training and coaching from introductory levels through advanced work, with an emphasis on correct execution, thoughtful riding, and developing the partnership needed to successfully navigate both Dressage and Ease of Handling.
Sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of training—it’s figuring out why something isn’t working.
Resistance, difficulty with the canter, inconsistent contact, tension, loss of confidence, behavioral issues, or a horse and rider who simply feel stuck can all have multiple causes. We take a whole-horse approach, looking at the horse’s training history, understanding of the aids, strength, balance, confidence, management, and rider interaction before deciding how to move forward.
Training assessments and short-term problem-solving sessions are available for horses that may not need a full training program.
